New Year's Pow Wow - Sketches

Today I went to the 15th annual American Indian Powwow in Tucson, Az. I did a few sketches that did not come close to doing the dancers justice, so I am including some photos (entry below) to give an idea of some of the amazing costumes there were today. I enjoyed the dancers, the drummers and the Navajo tacos on fry bread. I even participated in a round dance. It was a good way to start the New Year!

New Year's Powwow - Photos

The center photo is part of the opening ceremony where all tribes enter the circle. The photos left and right show some of the dancers waiting in line for the ceremony to begin.

Here are some of the children, including a baby.

Mission San Xavier del Bac

This morning, I went out with my friend, Jeanne to the Tohono O'odham Reservation (Tucson, Az) to see the Mission San Xavier del Bac and do some sketching. We thought we would draw the mission but ended up being captivated by the scene playing out in front of our parked car. The photo was taken from inside the car (you can see our hats on the dash, also glare from the dash) to give you an idea. There were several ramadas set up and after each mass, there would be people (and dogs - but the dogs would not stand still long enough to be in my sketch) lined up for Indian Fry Bread, burritos, tacos and other wonderful food made from homemade tortillas.

Later in the afternoon, I met my husband, Rob, to feed the ducks at Agua Caliente Park.

Blind Contour Friday - Bird with Plant

Well, here is my contribution for Blind Contour Friday #20. In case you can't recognize the subject, it is my parrot on top of her cage next to a spider plant. Now, the plant is actually across the room, I took liberty to put it next to the cage. I did fairly well until I came to drawing her eye, and it ended up nearly being a belly button! Of course, the parrot was moving constantly to make matters worse! You can see other Blind Contours, there is a list on Inkfinger's site.
